a brain injury occurs in the United States

The Brain Injury Association of Indiana is the only statewide organization in Indiana devoted exclusively to serving individuals with brain injuries, their families and the professionals who treat them. No family should have to face this alone.

There are many ways that you can help support BIAI and its mission through your “time, talent and treasure.” You can:

• Become a member
• Volunteer you time and expertise to support the BIAI mission
• Make a cash donation with a commitment to renew every year
• Invest in and support one of our programs: advocacy, education, prevention
• Increase your cash gift with employer-matching funds
• Pay tribute to loved ones or colleagues through a Memorial or Honorary contribution
• Take advantage of tax deductions by donating stocks, real estate, or personal property
• Look into the benefits of planned giving and name BIAI in your will
• Ask your employer to donate equipment or services to BIAI

Survivor and Family/Caregiver Membership – complimentary
A BIAI membership is a great way to stay connected to the latest updates, resources and activities at the state and national level.

Perfect for businesses or organizations who want to support persons with brain injury. Understand the current issues; increase your visibility; and more importantly be a leader in the brain injury community.

Volunteer and Internship Opportunities

You have more power to make a difference than you think, especially when it comes to creating positive change for Hoosiers affected by brain injury. And it doesn’t have to take a huge time commitment. Here are a few options of how you can make a difference as a volunteer or intern.

 Contributions and Gifts

With your help, BIAI can make a difference.

The Brain Injury Association of Indiana is a not-for-profit, 501 (c)3 statewide membership organization whose endeavors are funded by special events, memberships, memorial donations, gifts, and grants. Join BIAI and work toward a richer, brighter future for all survivors. By working together to promote a better system of care, we all benefit greatly.

Your support is vitally needed and is tax deductible. We depend on contributions from generous donors and we use all donations sensibly and efficiently.

In addition to membership, there are many ways that you can support BIAI.

Annual Donations

Your gift—large or small—makes a difference. Let your gift become a habit of the heart and donate annually to BIAI. You will be acknowledged personally and in our annual report and other publications for your generosity

Tributes: Memorial and Honorary Contributions

A Memorial gift allows you to pay tribute to a departed loved one by making a gift in their memory to the Brain Injury Association of Indiana. Memorial contributions are often made in lieu of flowers or sympathy cards.

An Honorary gift allows you to commemorate your living friends and relatives by making a gift in their name to the Brain Injury Association of Indiana. Honorary contributions can be made to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, wedding, sporting or scholastic achievement, retirement, holiday, or any other special occasion. Honorary contributions are often made in lieu of gifts are cards.

An acknowledgment will be sent to whomever you wish to be notified of your gift, such as family or friends of the deceased or the person being honored. The gift amount will not be disclosed in this acknowledgment. A thank-you note will be sent to you, acknowledging your gift and the amount. Your donation will also be published in our Newsletter and website. If you do not wish to have this published you can mark it on the form.

Planned Giving: Creating a Legacy

Many of you are already donors and we appreciate the support you give on an ongoing basis. Your support allows us to continue to do the work we do. But, through participating in our planned giving initiative, you can create a legacy. We all know that the more you give the more you receive. By remembering us in your Will or Trust, you can be assured that we will be able to continue to provide the resources that are so critical to our community for years to come.

It is easy to remember us in your estate. To do so, you make the important decision to include BIAI in your Will or Trust. You leave a legacy that impacts the lives of those in your community now, and that will have lasting rewards for years to come

Per our Gift Acceptance policy BIAI will gladly consider gifts such as but not limited to:

• Cash or in-kind donations
• Cash donations, properties or other assets in your Will or Trust
• Recipients (Beneficiaries) of life insurance policy
• Beneficiary of your retirement plans
• Transfer of ownership of stock
• Charitable Lead or a Charitable Remainder Trusts
• Donations of your IRA Required Minimum Distributions if you are over age 70 ½
• Real Estate and/or closely held securities

BIAI Wish List

As we continue to grow and expand our services, our needs are also growing and we must rely on our friends, sponsors and donors for help. This Winter/Spring we are seeking inkind sponsors or donations of:

• Printing of brochures, banners and/or other print material
• Office supplies, including presentation folders, paper, large envelopes, printer cartridges
• Gas cards to help our members who travel distances to attend conferences and trainings
• Bicycle helmets for the 2011 Use Your Head Save the Noggin Bike Ride (Adult through Child)
• Technology, including
   o Digital camera
   o Video camera
   o Projector
   o Laptops for Support Groups
   o Computer monitor
   o Computer hard drive (Windows 7 or higher)
• Two nice reception chairs and coffee table
• Lighting/Lamps for reception and desks

We are always looking for silent auction items for our two annual conferences. The funds from these auction items go towards programs and resources. This is also a great way to showcase your company, restaurant or service to a broad audience!
