MARK YOUR
CALENDARS:
The 8th Annual Brain Injury Conference entitled “Survive to
Thrive: Dare to Hope”, will be held on Tuesday, March 24,
2009 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick, RI.
When a traumatic brain injury occurs, the person’s family as well as
significant others are dramatically affected. The last few decades
have seen a shift from formal institutional care to informal home
and community care. Care giving for persons with traumatic brain
injury is an unexpected and often long-term dedication of one’s
self, time, and resources to the enhancement and maintenance of a
care recipient’s physical, cognitive, and emotional well being.
That is why this year’s conference will focus on
Caregiving.
The goal of the conference will be to increase and enhance the
knowledge that caregivers need to maintain their own health and
well-being while caring for their loved ones. Key lessons to be
learned are
#1 you are not alone
#2 there is much to be learned about recovery after brain
injury
#3 becoming a vocal advocate for your loved one, and
#4 reaching out for help
