You Can Help by Becoming
a Member!
Everyone, whether he/she is aware of it or not, knows someone who
has experienced some form of brain injury.
5.3 million Americans, 2% of the U.S. population, currently live
with disabilities resulting from traumatic brain injuries (TBIs).
Every 15 - 20 seconds someone sustains a brain injury.
In South Carolina each year, 8500 individuals will visit the
Emergency Department, 3,000 individuals will be admitted to the
hospital, and 1,000 individuals will die as a result of TBI.
Medical knowledge and technology have made great advances against
the devastating diseases of the past but have not kept pace with the
changing face of American culture; thus, the ‘silent epidemic" of
brain injury continues its devastating impact. In spite of the
staggering statistics on the annual incidence of brain injury,
relatively few people are aware that many of these injuries can be
prevented.
One way you can help us achieve our mission and help your family,
friends, and colleagues with brain injury is by making a
tax-deductible contribution to the BIASC. BIASC is a 501(c) (3)
not-for-profit organization.
