We at the Brain Injury Association of Colorado are again planning 6 summer camps all taking place in the beautiful Colorado Rocky Mountains at the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center, Breckenridge, Colorado. These Outdoor Adventure Challenge Camps have been a part of our history for over 20 yrs. Each camper is assigned a volunteer who not only helps them with the challenges and fun of the week but usually becomes a memorable friend. The camps are active with a ropes course, climbing wall, hand cycling, a river rafting day, journaling, good eats (meals you help to prepare) and even a theme dance. All events in a safe and happy environment with the sleeping, eating and various activities at a large log house, the Griffith Lodge.

2008 summer camp dates are: June 8-13, July 13-18, August 3-8, August 24-29, September 3-7 Canoe Trip (river rafting during the day and camping on the shoreline each night) and finally September 12-15 (NEW in late summer – “Creative Minds” fun with poetry, writing plays, the arts and yoga) with time left in each day to enjoy the great mountain air.

Always looking for capable, happy volunteers who are willing to give the gift of time. Should you have further questions call Linda at the Brain Injury Association of Colorado (303) 355-9969 x310.

Brain Injury Surveys

BIAW has recently been working with the Division of Developmental Disabilties on a Health Resource Services Administration Grant (HRSA).  As part of that process the Acquired Brain Injury Task Force has completed a survey of Wyoming's brain injury service gaps and needs.  The full report is available here (620k PDF file)

1. Wyoming in-state prison population
(This survey studied the answers provided by 200 inmates housed in the Women's Correctional Facility and the Wyoming Penitentiary.  Results and recommendations are included.)

2. Insurance coverage for brain injury
(This survey examines the availability of health insurance coverage in Wyoming, and whether services for brain injury rehabilitation are covered.)

BIAW's 2008 Walk For thought is planned for October 2008.

The 2007 Wyoming Walk for Thought took place in October and was a ton of fun! We had 3 locations across the state participating: Casper, Riverton, and Cheyenne.

Total value of all cash and in-kind items, less expenses = $7,500.00!

BIAW is pleased to say that the Walk has grown so much in popularity, that this year Thrivent Financial for Lutherans provided a matching grant of $1,000!

Thanks for all of our volunteers' hard work and we look forward to another successful walk in the coming year!
