BIAA Submits Testimony to House Appropriations Committee

The Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA) has submitted written testimony to the Labor-HHS-Education Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee, which funds the TBI programs in HRSA, Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in the Department of Health and Human Services, and the TBI Model Systems in NIDRR at the Department of Education. BIAA has asked for increased funding of these programs each year to grow the programs so they are able to serve more individuals with brain injuries.

BIAA recommends the following funding amounts for the FY 2015 Labor-HHS-Education appropriations bill:
  • $10 million (+ $4 million) for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention TBI Registries and Surveillance, Brain Injury Acute Care Guidelines, Prevention and National Public Education/Awareness
  • $12 million (+ $1 million) for the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Federal TBI State Grant Program
  • $4 million (+ $1 million) for the HRSA Federal TBI Protection & Advocacy (P&A) Systems Grant Program
  • $13 million (+ 1.5 million) for the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) TBI Model Systems of Care program in the Department of Education
