Brain Injury Attorneys Award Scholarship to Traumatic Brain Injury Survivor

In honor of Brain Injury Awareness Month, attorneys at New York-based De Caro & Kaplen, LLP have announced a $1,000 scholarship available to survivors of traumatic brain injury interested in pursuing a college education. The De Caro & Kaplen firm is a member of BIAA's Preferred Attorneys, and partners Shana De Caro and Michael Kaplen are nationally recognized as leaders in brain injury law. De Caro currently serves as a member of the board of directors of the Brain Injury Association of America, and Kaplen is three term past president of the Brain Injury Association of New York State. Both have served as chairperson of the American Association for Justice Traumatic Brain Injury Litigation Group.

"Our attorneys help people who have sustained brain damage caused by all types of accidents. As advocates for people with brain injury and their families, we have witnessed the incredible hardships they have endured and the dedication and determination necessary to rebuild their lives. We want to recognize an individual’s hard work and perseverance in living with a brain injury and pursuing their dreams and goals," explained Kaplen. "This scholarship is an important reminder that each and every person who has sustained a traumatic brain injury is an individual, not just a statistic."

"This scholarship exemplifies the dedication to the brain injury community by the De Caro & Kaplen firm," added Susan Connors, president and CEO of the Brain Injury Association of America. "Shana and Michael are aware of the consequences of brain injury and are taking steps to remind those facing TBI they are #NotAlone."
