Celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month
01-Oct-2012
The President of the United States released a proclamation today, October 1, 2012, for National Disability Employment Awareness Month. During National Disability Employment Awareness Month, the President and the nation recognize the indispensable contributions people with disabilities make in our economy.
In 2010, the President signed an Executive Order that called on Federal agencies to increase recruitment, hiring, and retention of people with disabilities. This year, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) reported on the Administration’s progress, revealing that the nation is moving toward meeting its goal of hiring an additional 100,000 people with disabilities into the Federal workforce over 5 years. Today, more people with disabilities work for the Federal Government than at any time in the past 20 years.
The Brain Injury Association of America applauds the President for recognizing the important contributions individuals with disabilities make to our economy. BIAA also celebrates the extraordinary accomplishments individuals with brain injury have made in America’s workforce. To read the complete proclamation by the President please click here.
