TBI Model System Center Grants Awarded

The U.S. Department of Education awarded 16 grants totaling more than $6.9 million for research on all aspects of rehabilitation care for those who sustain traumatic brain injuries. The grant was awarded under the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research's Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Model Systems program, which seeks to improve the lives of persons who experience TBI by creating and disseminating new knowledge about the course, treatment, and outcomes of these types of injuries. The overall goal of the program is to demonstrate the benefits of a coordinated system of neuro-trauma and rehabilitation care, and to conduct innovative research on all aspects of rehabilitation care.

The grant is awarded by the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services through the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR). The Brain Injury Association of America applauds the Administration for supporting research on rehabilitative care for the 1.7 million individuals that sustain a brain injury each year and congratulates the grant recipients:
