Karen Brown is the current Executive Director of Brain Injury Services, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides community-based rehabilitation services and programs to individuals with acquired brain injuries. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Ithaca College, Ithaca New York and her Master’s Degree in Counselor Education from Auburn University. Her 40 years of experience includes providing vocational rehabilitation services to veterans with spinal cord injuries and psychiatric disorders, developing and implementing two supported employment programs for individuals with psychiatric and intellectual disabilities, and serving as adjunct faculty at George Washington University where she taught courses and supervised practicum and internship students in their master’s level counseling program. Ms. Brown is on George Mason University’s College of Health and Human Services Advisory Board, the Ohio Valley Center for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI Model Systems) Advisory Council, and recently became a member of the Virginia Wounded Warrior Program Region 1 Advisory Board.

Within the last 24 months, have you rendered, or in the next two years, will you render clinical services or support services (whether diagnostic, therapeutic, educational, case management, or similar) to persons with TBI or their family members and caregivers, as an independent professional or employee of a for-profit or not-for-profit organization?: I provide executive leadership to a community-based BI non-profit organization that specializes in case management and services directed at helping an individual achieve their personal goals and find meaningful productive activity in thie community. Primary job focus is administrative with a strong focus on education and advocacy. My compensation should in way increase as a result of specific recommendations the Guidelines may make.

Within the past 24 months, I or one of my “immediate family members” received personal compensation for the following: Ohio Valley Center for Brain Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation (TBI Model Systems); Serve on Advisory Council-reimbursed for travel to Columbus, OH.
