80 Foot Fall

80 Foot Fall

My name is Kevin. In 2009 I was about 4 years out of the Navy & living in Las Vegas as a zipline tour guide. I was 25, traveling the world, working as a zipline instructor. As a kid always searching for the next big adventure, living on the edge, this was a dream job for me. That all changed on Oct 3, 2009. The last thing I remember is going to sleep the night before. The next day is a day I’ll may never remember. While guiding a group of tourist down ziplines, the unthinkable happened, in a freak accident I fell 80Ft off a zipline. I remained in a coma for 3 months & underwent multiple surgeries. My family wad told I had a 1 in 1000 chance of living & if I actually did make it out of the coma, my life would be limited & I essentially would be a vegetable with the amount of damage my brain sustained. . 3 months later I would miraculously wake up out of a coma, interestingly enough while my mom was reading a famous children book called, A Wrinkle in Time, a book about traveling through time, my mom would later acclaim, that’s what I was likely doing while I was in a coma & that reading the book itself played an integral part of me coming out of my coma. Mystical? I choose to think so! & that’s when the journey began. Now As a survivor, living with traumatic injuries, every day presents its own challenges. Depending on your mindset, you can look at these challenges as either obstacles or opportunities. I choose to see them as opportunities to grow, to learn and to inspire others & share the message, from those recovering all the way up to the leaders & executives. It’s important to not let a disability define your life. I aim to spread awareness, through public speaking, brain injury programs, & personalized coaching, providing a blueprint that highlights steps to overcome those limiting definitions, removing the “dis” from disability, & allowing those living with brain injuries to tell their own stories and change the narrative of their lives.
