Dissertation Awards

BIAA recognizes outstanding doctoral dissertations that contribute to our understanding of the chronicity and excess mortality of chronic brain injury, neurodegenerative processes associated with these injuries, or long-term consequences of childhood brain injury.

BIAA recognizes outstanding doctoral dissertations that contribute to our understanding of the chronicity and excess mortality of chronic brain injury, neurodegenerative processes associated with the injury, or long-term consequences of childhood injury. Nominated dissertations may use quantitative or qualitative analytic methods and may be based on original data collection or secondary data analysis.

Eligibility

A dissertation award may be granted to an individual or to his/her institution. If the award is made to the individual, a W-9 form is required and the individual is responsible for applicable income taxes. Only U.S. citizens are eligible.


Award Amount

Dissertation awards range from $3,000 to $5,000. Up to two awards are available in 2019.


Application Requirements

BIAA uses cloud-based grants management software for all aspects of the application process, including materials submission, reviews, and communication with applicants. Dissertation award applicants are required to submit the following information through the online portal:

  1. Candidate contact information
  2. Dissertation title and abstract
  3. Complete dissertation proposal
  4. Contact information for thesis supervisor/advisor
  5. A recommendation letter written by the student’s advisor supporting the application and confirming that the applicant is a doctoral candidate in good standing.

Deadlines

Application deadlines will be announced before June 1, 2019.
