Earlier this week, Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA) staff learned about a Facebook fundraiser being held in honor of brain injury survivor William “Bill” Mealback, who was killed in Muscle Shoals, Alabama last Friday. The online initiative was led by Mark White, creator of The Mark White Show, and has since raised $2,005.

After hearing about Mr. Mealback’s tragic death, Mark White found his Facebook page and noticed a fundraiser that Mr. Mealback had set up for his birthday in June. He was trying to raise $200 for the Brain Injury Association of America, but he didn’t receive any donations. Mr. Mealback’s death inspired Mr. White to continue the fundraiser in his memory – and to learn more about brain injury.

To help raise awareness and educate others, Mark White invited BIAA President/CEO Susan Connors to appear on his podcast so he and his listeners could learn more about brain injury. The episode will air October 8 at 10 p.m. CST.

“BIAA is deeply grateful to Mark White and all the people who donated in honor of Mr. Mealback,” said Susan Connors. “We extend our condolences to the Mealback family, and we encourage everyone to get involved.” Individuals can donate in honor of Mr. Mealback at biausa.org/donate.

The Mark White Show aims to recognize people, groups, and organizations who are making a difference. To learn more about BIAA’s policy work on brain injury education for first responders, click here.
