New Video Highlights Impact of COVID-19 on Individuals with Brain Injury

May 6, 2020

The Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA) thanks the New York law firm of De Caro & Kaplen, LLP for its continued efforts to bring awareness of brain injury and support of BIAA to the general public, especially during the COVID-19 global pandemic. The firm released a new video, “Living with a Brain Injury During Covid-19,” which highlights the additional stresses many individuals with brain injury face at this time, and asks those who know or interact with brain injury survivors to reach out and “make sure they are OK.” The video also acknowledges the bravery of those on the front line, including first responders, medical, and service personnel.

“For many brain injury survivors, this is the second time they are forced to adapt to a ‘new world’, which makes it even more challenging,” says Shana De Caro, partner at De Caro & Kaplen and vice chair of the BIAA Board of Directors. The cognitive, physical, emotional, and behavioral symptoms associated with brain injury may be intensified by necessary isolation and social distancing measures and exacerbated by the uncertainty and fear of the crisis. The video encourages viewers to take a moment to check on a neighbor, friend, or family member living with a brain injury as there is always something you can do or say, and someone you can help.

The video ends by asking for support for BIAA. For more information, visit biausa.org/support.
