President Trump’s Proposed Budget Cuts Brain Injury Services

May 22, 2017

The Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA) received an advanced copy of President Trump’s budget analysis, which seeks to combine the TBI State Grant Program with the Developmental Disabilities Grant and Independent Living Grant Programs into a single grant, albeit with less funding. Further, the budget proposes a $9 million cut to the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) budget, where the TBI Model Systems are housed.

BIAA will meet with representatives from the Administration on Community Living (ACL), which houses both programs, on Thursday, May 25, to discuss these matters. BIAA will work collaboratively with NASHIA, Friends of NIDILRR, and other TBI Stakeholders to develop and implement appropriate strategies to fight these harmful proposals by the Trump Administration.
